The island is located between Pakoštane in the north, the island of Pašman in the northwest, the Kornati in the southwest and Murter in the southeast. Constantin Porfirogenet mentioned it already in middle Ages, since it was supervisory point on the Adriatic seaway. There are still ruins of medieval fortifications. It is very poorly populated, especially in the winter months - most of the population is older, while turning into a popular destination in summer months. Vrgada abounds in beautiful sheltered sandy coves, and is one of the favorite boating anchorages.
